Pacific's PsyD in Clinical Psychology trains practitioner-scholars in a generalist program, and its four emphasis areas (adult, child, health psychology and neuropsychology) each carry their own curriculum, research programs and clinical practica. The program is typically a five-year pathway that includes a master of arts degree on the way to the doctorate: four years in residence in Hillsboro, Oregon, for coursework, research and practicum, then one year away on a doctoral internship. Students complete three year-long practicum placements with a minimum of 500 training hours per year, beginning with a Practicum I year at the Pacific Psychology & Comprehensive Health Clinic, which has sites in Hillsboro, Oregon, and Portland, Oregon. The internship is either one calendar year full time or two consecutive years half time, arranged through the APPIC match, and a doctoral research project, which can take forms from single case designs to program evaluation, is defended in a public oral examination or presentation.

Applicants need a completed bachelor's degree; a psychology major is not required, but prerequisite courses including abnormal psychology, statistics and research methods must be completed with a grade of B- or better before PsyD coursework begins. Students who enter with a master's degree may transfer some coursework, though the program still typically takes five years of full-time participation, and finalists are interviewed. Classes are in person in Hillsboro, Oregon, and start in August, and students may add the Latine Mental Health Program or earn the Concentration in Interprofessional Education. Students are eligible for graduate and teaching assistantships, and Pacific says the PsyD is designed to meet the educational requirements for applying for licensure in the states it lists; licensure itself is granted by each state's psychology board.

  • The program totals 126 credits.
  • Every student's Practicum I year is at the school's own training clinic in Hillsboro, Oregon, or Portland, Oregon.
  • The School of Graduate Psychology runs its own APA-accredited internship program.
  • Students are eligible for graduate and teaching assistantships.
  • Classes begin each August, in person in Hillsboro, Oregon.
