The program follows the practitioner-scholar model, which places primary emphasis on delivering psychological services and on evaluating and improving them, and it stresses data-based decision making in practice. Practicum is integrated with coursework: a three-semester practicum sequence begins in the second semester of the first year and continues through the second year, and students register for 150 hours of practicum that include 30 hours of advanced supervision at GSAPP. The program publishes four-year and five-year model course sequences for students entering in fall 2026 and after.
