Hofstra's School-Community Psychology PsyD in Hempstead, New York, trains school psychologists to work across schools and community agencies, moving from school-based practica in the first two years to a third-year community externship in settings such as hospitals, mental health centers or correctional facilities.

Read More on Hofstra University Show less on Hofstra University

The program follows a scholar-practitioner model that joins school psychology and community psychology in one practice framework, and Hofstra describes it as a 100 semester-hour sequence designed for completion in approximately five years of full-time study. Students spend one day a week in a school setting in Year 1 and two days a week in Year 2, while also working in one of the program's specialty clinics; in the third year they complete a community-based externship under licensed psychologists in settings such as hospitals, community mental health centers, correctional facilities and public agencies. The program's own pages describe the internship as a full-time, year-long school placement that follows CDSPP, APA and NASP standards for training and supervision, and students may enter the APPIC match for APA-accredited internships but are not required to. Research runs through a second-year research project and an empirical dissertation or applied research project, alongside twelve psychological evaluations completed through the university's Psychological Evaluation, Research, and Counseling Clinic and a comprehensive examination at the end of Year 3.

Hofstra admits students at a beginning level with a bachelor's degree and at an advanced level for applicants who hold a master's, specialist or professional diploma in school psychology and are certified, and GRE scores are optional at both levels. The program is open only to full-time, matriculated students, typically enrolls a class of about 12, wants all application materials by January 15 and interviews invited applicants in person. All incoming students receive partial scholarship support in their first two years, typically linked to faculty-led research and a specialty clinic, and the admission page says virtually all full-time students receive assistantships. The program is also approved by the National Association of School Psychologists, and it states that every student's field placement sequence must meet the requirements for New York State licensure and the National Certification in School Psychology; licensure itself is granted by the state's psychology board.

  • The program totals 100 semester hours.
  • School-based practica run in the first two years, followed by a community externship in the third.
  • All internships follow CDSPP, APA and NASP standards for training and supervision.
  • GRE scores are optional for beginning and advanced applicants.

Its program page is Yeshiva University’s doctorate page for the Clinical Psychology Psy.D. program. The score weighs cost, graduate earnings, completion, internship and licensure outcomes, track record, credential alignment and program reputation, and the methodology page shows each weight.

What Does a PsyD Cost in New York?

Seven ranked programs in New York list a yearly tuition, from $22,720 to $62,084, with a median of $45,150. Each figure is the full-time yearly tuition in the program’s own cost table.
